ABOUT THE SHOW
West Australian Opera tempts you to take a chance.
You’re invited to join fellow strangers at a meeting place; a location known only to those who have chosen to embrace this mystery.
Together, you’ll be led to an undisclosed location. Picture an intimate venue charged with the buzz of the unknown.
As the music begins, you will uncover a Secret Opera. Performed to an audience of only 100 people, each note will feel like a personal serenade.
It’s an evening wrapped in surprises, where the thrill of discovery is as enchanting as the music itself.
All you know is the date, the time, and the starting place. Limited tickets. Your Secret Opera awaits.
Reveal: Secret Opera 14 - 16 February
WHAT YOU HEARD: Siegfried Idyll by Richard Wagner
In 1870, Richard Wagner secretly composed Siegfried Idyll as a birthday gift for his wife, Cosima. On Christmas morning, 13 musicians performed it outside her bedroom.
Wagner later wove its themes into Siegfried, part of The Ring Cycle. Cosima also inspired Parsifal, and after hearing its prelude with Siegfried Idyll in 1878, she wrote, “He loves me!”
WHERE YOU WERE: Liberty Lair
Secret Opera took place in the hidden basement of Liberty Lair, accessible via an urban laneway behind Barrack Street in the Perth CBD. This little-known space is soon to become one of Perth's premier underground jazz bars.
Thank you to Humich Group for providing such an exciting venue.
